With the 2023 presidential election coming up, drunk driving and foreclosures are big topics after 20 years

Driving illegally for ten thousand

Fines have become more expensive – Transport operators in Brno are selling debt collection to private parties. Thousands of Brno residents may receive a final notice in the mail to pay a ticket for driving illegally. However, the amount on it may make their dolls “spin” – it will not be a thousand crowns fine, but almost ten times higher. The transport company has had the unpaid fines collected by specialized law firms. Bus companies and Czech Railways are doing the same. “This is already standard procedure. The amount recovered can actually reach up to ten thousand.

Presidential election mobilized voters in executions

An analysis by Seznam Zprav shows that the presidential election managed to bring people across the country to the polls. All candidates mobilised; in places more affected by unemployment and foreclosures, Andrej Babiš “benefited” the most. The post-election division of society into centres and peripheries has its reasons. The peripheral areas of the Czech Republic are characterised by lower voter turnout, higher unemployment and a high burden of foreclosures. However, people from places with higher unemployment turned out to vote in greater numbers than usual. Usually, the inhabitants of poorer regions are lukewarm about voting.

The Summer of Grace I begins, people can repay debts to municipalities or the state without interest and penalties

The summer of grace begins. Until 28 January, anyone who owes money to the state, county, municipality, their organisations or companies owned by them will be able to repay the debt and have the so-called accessory charges, i.e. interest and miscellaneous fees, forgiven. Some private companies have also joined the action and others are considering it. Lawmakers who drafted the grace summer and nonprofit organizations that help people in debt hope it will reduce the number of people with foreclosures. The grace summer could affect as many as hundreds of thousands of them. It’s the peak of autumn, but a summer of grace is beginning nonetheless.

The gracious summer will be repeated from September, it’s the last time. Borrowers can get rid of foreclosures

From the first of September to the end of November this year, it is once again a summer of grace for borrowers. It is the last time, its authors point out. If the debtor pays the entire principal and the lump sum compensation for the costs of the execution, he or she will be forgiven the accessories, i.e. especially the often staggering interest on late payment.
