No one is to blame for forgotten needle in patient’s body, courts say statute of limitations
The courts have rejected the claims of a woman whose body was probably left with a needle after lumbar spine surgery at the Hradec Kralove University Hospital in 1991. The judges said she spoke up too late. The foreign object was discovered in her body on an X-ray by doctors at Chrudim Hospital in June 2016. The woman asked the Hradec Králové University Hospital for compensation in November 2019. The courts said it was too late, and her claim is time-barred. The Constitutional Court then rejected the complaint at the end of August this year.
