They’ve been banned, but they continue to do harm. Hundreds of Czechs a year are poisoned by dangerous pesticides
More than 100 Czechs end up in hospital with pesticide poisoning every year. Others have no acute problems, but the chemical is circulating in their bodies. Scientists from Masaryk University in Brno have found this out. They say up to six out of ten people have dangerous chlorpyrifos in their urine. It is similar to the warfare agents used in Syria. If it enters the body, it damages the nervous system, just as they do. For years, therefore, it has been one of the most popular pesticides among Czech farmers, helping them to kill aphids, mandelins and other soil pests.
