Historian: The disaffected were making empty speeches, they didn’t speak up. We got used to not seeing them
In the 1990s we were offended by Slovakia and overlooked our own environment of corruption. Today we treat Slovaks as equals, historian Adéla Gjuričová says in an interview on the approaching 30th anniversary of the division of Czechoslovakia. She also talks about the contradiction in which every Czech president finds himself. “He is removed from politics, but at the same time he is its head and wants to influence it, it drives him crazy,” she says.
