Gregor Johann Mendel
He has no connection with Czech science, he didn’t even speak Czech. He was of German origin where later in the text the editor adds that he was 1/4 Czech on his father’s side. A monk, later abbot of the Augustinian monastery in Old Brno. Born Austria-Hungary, village Vražné (cadastre Hynčice before Heinzendorf). Mendel was a Moravian German, one of the later hundreds of thousands forcibly evicted.
