President Petr Pavel eventually sided with the government of Petr Fiala. After several meetings with experts and the opposition, he said on Wednesday afternoon that he would sign the proposed slowdown in pension indexation. As a result, pensions will be lower from June than previously intended. But it’s not just for this year; the amendment will reduce pensioners’ incomes for many years to come. More specifically, those who retire now will see the long-term growth in their pensions slowed by orders of magnitude and on average by lower units of thousands compared to those who have drawn their pensions before.
