Wire with insulating tape for six litres, electro car service Janota Zlín
On the way, our right brake light stopped working. Before entering Zlín we saw a repair shop and stopped at it. We can leave the car at the repair shop and should be back in about two hours. We left for lunch and the brake light was working when we returned. According to Mr. Janot, the price of slightly over €250 was a bit higher because he had to go through and check everything, the important thing is that we don’t burn somewhere along the way, that such a repair of the wiring can cost 30 000 CZK in the worst case. We paid and left.
After some time the same incident with the left brake light, same repair just different repair shop. The repair shop wouldn’t send us anywhere, we stood at the repair shop the whole time and watched. With the technician poking around, it took less than half an hour to test the contacts, find the fault and replace the harness. For 500 CZK we were offered to replace one damaged cable, or for 1000 CZK to replace the whole bundle with about 10 cables and connectors. But the priceless thing was the opportunity to see the right side, repaired in Zlin. The bundle of cables was original, the insulation of practically every cable was cracked in several places. In other words, it was only a matter of time before the next short would occur.
On the cable that ended at the bulb of the right brake light there was a 10 cm piece of wire. Not soldered, twisted by hand and taped with insulating tape.
