Conservative doesn’t want a military base, Martin says he’s abandoned his heritage, cancel culture disappears personality

How Ján Čarnogurský gave up his heritage

The current misery of Slovak conservatism is not only related to the failure of the sons. But also of the men to whom today’s conservatives could look up. It’s a sobering picture: at a time when everyone suddenly wants to abolish Mečiar’s amnesties, the hero of the dissident 1970s/80s and the anti-Mečiar 1990s is mentally merging with the world of the Main News, which is perhaps the only media outlet that is passionate about preserving the amnesty for Ivan Lexa. The man who in the 1990s spoke out as an authority on modern conservatism against “extremists who elevate the national idea above everything”, today, in his already completely derailed fight against NATO, finds the last Slovak hope in far worse extremists than he had in mind at the time.
