Valuable chateau Horní Maršov from 1792 went up in flames — the buyer allegedly wanted to lower its price

The businessman ordered two arson attacks, one of which set a valuable chateau ablaze. The man now wants to get out of jail early

At the time of the fire, the valuable chateau was offered for sale by a real estate agency for CZK 14.5 million. Racek managed the company that was interested in it at the time. His company bought the castle from its then owner, the Sagna company of Russian businessman Sergei Majzus, for a final price of 10 million. Seven months after the castle fire, police struck, arresting Racek, his accomplice Peter Fice and four other men in the raid. The latter planned the arson attacks and the rest carried them out. The damage to the castle amounted to CZK 5 million, while an earlier fire at a car dealership near Humpolec caused damage to cars worth around CZK 1 million.
