Nearly 20 years of litigation over the incinerator. Opponents collected 50,000 signatures, Křetínský’s AVE has the green light anyway
A large part of Pardubice residents are convinced that the dispute over the hazardous waste incinerator, which was to be built on the outskirts of the Synthesia chemical plant, is long past. But the opposite is true. As early as 2009, 48 000 people, equivalent to more than half of Pardubice’s population, expressed their opposition to the incinerator in a petition. The Ministry of the Environment then issued an opinion against the construction of the incinerator. However, even this did not change anything. The investor, AVE CZ, a waste company belonging to Daniel Křetínský’s concern, did not give up. It continued to persistently challenge the issued decisions and succeeded in 2018 when the ministry led by Richard Brabec (ANO) cancelled the key opinion.
