Czechs in the Wehrmacht
Military service in the German armed forces during the Second World War only applied to Reich-German citizens. However, not everyone who applied for citizenship could obtain it, or even those who did not want it often did. This was especially the case in the ethnically complex regions of the Republic, such as Hlučín and Těšín. The numbers of soldiers in the service of the Wehrmacht from these remote and developmentally peculiar areas thus ran into the tens of thousands.
