The Prosecutor General’s Office conducted unannounced inspections in all 13 re-education centres in Slovakia. Maroš Žilinka has called a big work session for Thursday, saying the situation is unacceptable. The minor Timea has been spending more than 24 hours in “isolation”. In a locked room in “absolutely unacceptable conditions” with no working lights and with mold on the toilet, she has no idea what will happen to her. So she is just waiting for the door to open.

You can’t do anything about escapes, shrugged the facility in Hlohovec. Today, they claim they will be more humane. When the public defender of rights, Jana Dubovcova, was approached by two inmates of the Reeducation Centre in Hlohovec about the horrendous conditions they were being subjected to, she went there in March this year and did some research. She was shocked by the conditions. “We talked to children who had no way of making arrangements, we didn’t check in beforehand. The attitude of the staff was unbelievable. Not one good word was said about the children. It was like a military facility.”
