Jozef Tiso demanded one nation, one party and one leader. We can’t compare Emil Hácha to him.
How did Slovak President Josef Tiso speak to radio listeners? In 1947, he was executed in Bratislava for his actions during the war. Through little-known archive recordings, the Archiv Plus programme reminds us of him. “The Slovaks should finally rehabilitate Tiso, since the Czechs have already rehabilitated Hácha,” wrote one Slovak recently in an internet discussion. Really? Comparing Jozef Tiso with Emil Hácha is the proverbial mixing of apples and pears. It is difficult to compare a president who emerged from still partially democratic elections, whose country is run by the Gestapo and who, due to his health, has not been responsible for what has happened to him for the last two years.
