“I’m sorry, Europe.” The EU wants to limit the influx of Chinese electric cars, but the locals love them
When Laima Springe-Janssen decided to replace her French petrol-powered sport-utility vehicle (SUV) with an electric car, she considered models from Volvo of Sweden and Nissan of Japan. However, the additional equipment on the Volvo EVs she wanted to have would have put too much strain on her budget, while the Nissan EVs offered nothing to impress her, she said. So in the end, this resident of the Danish capital Copenhagen bought a small SUV from the Chinese brand BYD. Her husband likes the car so much that he is considering replacing their other Volkswagen Skoda with another BYD.

Skoda as the Group’s margin king. Volkswagen doesn’t earn that much, takes inspiration from Boleslav
The German Volkswagen Group (VW) has not been happy in recent months. It is under considerable pressure from Tesla and Chinese manufacturers, not only in its home market of Europe but also in China. Moreover, there is not as much interest in its electric cars as the managers in Wolfsburg had hoped. In Germany, government subsidies for electric car purchases ended at the end of August, so sales may fall even further. In September alone, registrations of electric cars in Germany were 35 percent lower overall than in the previous month.
