Klaus signs Lisbon. Ratification of the treaty is over
President Václav Klaus signs the Lisbon Treaty at 3 pm. Two hours later, Prime Minister Jan Fischer signed the treaty. The Lisbon Treaty is thus ratified in the European Union. According to the Swedish EU Presidency, it will enter into force on 1 December. In the morning, the Constitutional Court ruled that the Lisbon Treaty is in line with the Czech constitutional order. Klaus said afterwards that he had expected the Constitutional Court’s decision and respected it, although he fundamentally disagreed with its content and reasoning.
