A well-known dissident is on hunger strike. Protesting against low pensions
Those who opposed the communist regime spent years of their lives in poorly paid positions or in prison. Their pensions are therefore low. Labour and Social Affairs Minister Marian Jurečka has promised to remedy this. Jiří Gruntorád, a signatory of Charter 77 and founder of the Libri prohibiti library of samizdat and exile literature, criticises the failure to address the problem of low pensions for dissidents. He is calling for the resignation of Labour Minister Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL).
