Dzurinda is trying to appeal to voters who remember with nostalgia his active involvement in politics. The slogan of few political parties in Slovakia is as strongly etched in people’s memory as it was in the case of SDKÚ. In 2002, the former flagship of the Slovak right launched its election campaign with the slogan “blue is good”. The slogan accompanied the Union for many years afterwards and it is possible that it will appear on billboards again this summer.

After looting, Roma talk of war
Police in eastern Slovakia are on high alert and some Roma are speaking openly about war after the looting of shops in Čierna nad Tisou and Trhoviště on Friday and Saturday. Members of the Slovak Roma Parliament said over the weekend that they did not know who was organising the looting of Roma in eastern Slovakia, but at the same time they indirectly supported the Roma riots. The Roma Parliament called on them to protest against the government’s social policies across Slovakia on Wednesday and to send their children to school for only their second lesson.
