Romani people demonstrated on Stodolní Street. We want a law for all, they chanted
About 100 Romani people demonstrated in the well-known Stodolní Street in the center of Ostrava on Wednesday evening. They were protesting the fact that security guards at some bars in the area are allegedly physically assaulting Romani patrons for no reason and that the police are allegedly doing nothing about this violence. The crowd reached a nearby police station. The action was called by Romani activist David Mezei. “In January alone there were two such cases in which security guards beat up a young visitor for no reason at all, just because he is Romani. That’s no longer the case. The police only investigate, but they never investigate anything,” Mezei said angrily, to cheers of approval from other participants in the demonstration.
