Beating of detainee at police station was not torture, court rules
The beating of a young man suspected of drug possession is not torture, but abuse of official authority. That was the conclusion reached by the District Court for Prague 4 at the end of March in the case of a pair of police officers who last February beat a man detained at a police station in Prague’s Lhotka district after he had knocked a computer monitor off a table. At the time, the victim was handcuffed with his right hand to the bench he was sitting on during the attack.
