Jiří Čunek appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development

KDU-ČSL Chairman Jiří Čunek has been appointed by the President of the Czech Republic to the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development. This took place during a ceremony at Prague Castle on Wednesday 2 April 2008 shortly after 11:00. Čunek took the prescribed oath of office in the hands of President Klaus and subsequently signed the appointment decree. After a short ceremonial toast with the President of the Republic and Prime Minister Topolánek, Jiří Čunek left for the Straka Academy

Czech Human Rights Defender Otakar Motejl has published a lengthy report condemning last year’s eviction of Romani people from Vsetín, which was directed by Jiří Čunek.
