Independent police unions: no debate about cutting retirement benefits, we will lose hundreds of experienced police officers
In total, the state pays over CZK 7 billion a year in retirement benefits to all retired persons. What changes would be realistic? We asked Milan Štěpánek, chairman of the Independent Trade Unions of the Police of the Czech Republic, and Antonín Sedi, a member of the Defence Committee from the Czech Social Democratic Party. Two police officers, same position, but two different salaries thanks to retirement benefits. The police officers are afraid that the discussion about the retirement system will lead to their money being taken away from them. According to calculations by the Czech Radio’s Data Department, Zdeněk Laube left with a lifetime annuity of approximately CZK 51 000.
