Prosperous Brno and poverty in the north. A comparison of how the regions have fared in the last five years
People will elect new regional leaders today and tomorrow, and many will ask: how is my region doing compared to other regions? According to the development of regional GDP and average wages, the South Moravian Region comes out best in the comparison. The Karlovy Vary, Plzeň and Liberec regions have fared the least well economically, while these regions have excelled in the growth of life expectancy. It is no secret that the growth of the Czech economy has stagnated in recent years and that we are losing ground compared to the average of the European Union countries. According to official figures, the Czech economy, measured in purchasing power parity, was at 93 per cent of the EU average in 2019.
