Czech taxpayers lost 12 billion here. Now the troubled Adularya power plant has a new owner
Turkish state fund TMSF has completed the sale of Adularya Enerji. Why should we care? The link between this tangled story and the Czech Republic is more than strong. This is a company that ordered a coal-fired power plant from Czech contractors and the result is a dysfunctional fiasco. While the Czech Export Bank and EGAP lost billions of crowns on this business case, the Turkish state made a profit on the sale.

Uncertain season of Vítkovice tycoon Jan Světlík
Vítkovice Power Engineering (VPE) was the general contractor of the Yunus Emre power plant. Construction near the Turkish town of Eskişehir began six years ago and was supported by the Czech Export Bank together with the state insurance company EGAP. However, there was a problem that the Czech planners had not counted on. The plant is to burn low calorific lignite, the quality of which is significantly worse than that of lignite from northern Bohemia. The plant failed to meet the requirements of the investor, Turkey’s Adularya Energy, in a test run. Slag is accumulating in the boiler and its performance is falling short of the promised parameters.
