City of Písek 1996 cancels municipal radio, Žilina 2012 wants to invest 250 000€

For years we have mobile phones, Žilina invests in radio instead of SMS

In accordance with the requests of the individual districts, the OAG proposed a budget of EUR 250 000 for the implementation of municipal public address systems for 2012. Following the modification of the draft budget, EUR 50 000 remained for this purpose. If this amount is approved in the budget, we will proceed in 2012 to replace the municipal public address systems with wireless ones in the districts where the situation is most critical. The municipal district of Trnové is one of the most risky in terms of the safety of the current radio poles.

Municipal Radio: Habit or need?

The town of Písek abolished the town radio already in 1996. This decision was also supported by the fact that the area of the city, where it would be necessary to install a public address system, was expanding much faster than the citizens of Písek could “stretch the wires”. At the same time, a regional radio station (Rádio Prácheň) began broadcasting, which for the most part took over current news coverage, including a critical stance on local shortcomings. Residents continue to get information about events in the town and its surroundings from information boards. In addition, a monthly newsletter, Zpravodaj, is published there.
