The Temelin of Czech Diplomacy, the nickname of the Czech National Building in New York
It cost three times more and took five times longer to build than planned. This is one of the reasons why the Czech National Building in New York has earned the nickname Temelin of Czech diplomacy during its five-year existence. It was originally intended to become the centre of the Czech community in New York, but today it often sits empty. The hopes placed in the building, which was repaired at a cost of more than CZK 800 million, were considerable. But just two years after it opened, the failed director of the Czech National Building, Petr Fejk, declared it dead. In connection with its activities, he spoke of a club for a few dozen intellectuals.
