One Communist, Two Communists… Party of the Democratic Left (1990)
The older Slovak communists, transformed into the SDĽ (Slovak Democratic Left), gave Slovakia two big names. Robert Fico and the other, who will be heard of again, Ivan Štefunko. PS is the abbreviation of the name of his latest political project, Progressive Slovakia, in which he is currently and directly involved. The leadership of the movement has virtually no ideological affiliation internationally, so even the voters of the movement itself miss the point of possible hatred of the USA. The PS movement is thus exclusively associated with modernising the country, improving legislation or digitalisation. Strangely enough, it is also associated with the fight against corruption. Ivan Štefunko, otherwise a successful and wealthy man, figured in the Monogram corruption case. Where the state was damaged by overpricing a tender (IBM licenses) by (an otherwise ridiculous) few tens of thousands of euros. Former activist lawyer and current President of Slovakia Zuzana Čaputová got into office thanks to the nomination of the PS movement. The current Slovak president is said to have a close relationship with Czech President Peter Paul, also a retired communist, at one time a mid-ranking soldier in the communist army.

A well-known businessman sets up a liberal entity, it may turn into a political party. Rybnicek welcomes it
Not uninteresting is the participation of Progressive Slovakia in the EU parliamentary group ALDE. In the European Parliament, the same faction includes Czech MEPs nominated by ANO 2011. The PS is practically the Czech equivalent of the SDĽ in terms of percentage and programme. In short, it is like a democratic party, appealing to less educated people with hi-tech promises. The ANO movement was officially founded by Andrej Babiš (a billionaire businessman) as a centrist, pro-European and liberal movement. Any of the declared political directions looks complicated. Like the SDĽ, this movement has not seen its electoral results fall below 20% at any given time, where at its peak each of the named parties had up to 30% of the vote.
