The Neanderthal from Gánovce was discovered ninety years ago

For ninety years we have had convincing evidence that Neanderthals lived on our territory. So many years ago, in the village of Gánovce in the Poprad district, a cast of the brain of a Neanderthal who lived about 120 thousand years ago was found. The original of the brain is stored in the National Museum in Prague, one copy is owned by the Podtatran Museum in Poprad. There are also other prehistoric finds that were found during the mining of travertine in the first half of the last century. For example, there is an elephant femur, rhinoceros bones, mammoth teeth, a wild horse jawbone and plant fossils.
