What it’s like to live in a city that probably has the most expensive heat in the country
One-third of people in Breclav have seen their heat rise in price by up to five times. Dissatisfied customers are now receiving increased monthly advances. They are preparing petitions and are even considering a lawsuit against the municipal company. Stanislav, in his sixties, leans under the open hood and checks the oil in the engine. The trouble with his old car is far from the only thing bothering him now. “I’m now paying an extra CZK 10,200 a month for heat. I’m a millionaire, it doesn’t affect me at all,” he says wryly. He adds seriously that he will have no money for food or clothes because of the increased deposits.
