Czech Ministry plans financial programme to restore and conserve German graves
The individual details of the programme, such as the funding criteria, are currently still evolving. However, it is already known that funding is unlikely to be sufficient to solve the problem completely. “The scale of neglect is truly enormous. If all the graves were restored – which won’t happen – the cost would run into billions. Our planned program, on the other hand, is in the millions, maybe 50 million crowns [about 2 million euros] initially,” Leo Steiner of the Ministry of Regional Development told Czech Radio. The ministry will initially provide the funds from its own budget. The European Union will take over the funding from 2029.
