We’re drawing on EU funds — Masaryk Oncology Institute deployed Czech devs, staff must manually recalculate patients’ medication doses

The Institute’s new IT system, SONIS, is failing. A tragic error is imminent, oncologists fear

We go to work dreading the possibility that someone will fail to supervise something and there will be misconduct and punishment for negligence. This is how some employees (Masaryk Oncology Institute) in Brno describe their feelings from the last weeks during which they have been working with the new IT system. According to them, the new IT system is causing problems, the consequences of which can be terrible. According to the institute’s management, the problems are only temporary. They cannot even rely on the dosage of chemotherapy, which the programme calculates based on the patient’s height, weight and laboratory values; they have to recalculate all doses manually.
