Mainstream teaches voters how to insult opponent in English, after losing election, linguists examine the term lackey

Linguists have examined the term lackey. It can also be translated into English

How and when did the term subgrasshop originate? How to use it correctly and how can it be translated into English? The word podržtaška meaning “minion, pätolizač”, “insignificant, unimportant person” has not been used in Slovakia for a long time, as Sibyla Mislovičová from the Ľudovít Štúr Institute of Linguistics found out at the request of SME. Translator Ivana Krekáňová did not find a direct equivalent to the term podržtaška in English. According to her, the closest is the word “minion”. “It is a kind of minion, a minion. But it’s also a bit different in meaning, because it refers more to a minion of a minstrel,” she says. The other option, she says, is flunkey, or flunky – asshole, minion, minion.
