The Czech commander discussed the evacuation of Afghans with the Taliban. He only had a pistol hidden on his person, his back was secured by a sniper
“It was my decision,” the commander of the Czech military police unit KAMBA says of the impromptu negotiations with the Taliban. At a moment when almost everyone in Kabul, Afghanistan, was trying to get to the local airport, the Czech soldier went outside the airport into the danger zone, into the “Taliban kingdom”, where armed militants were already on the loose.
Comment: The Czech commander was able to negotiate between the base in the wilderness and the wasteland in one of the Pashto dialects over several months. The Afghan highlanders spoke written English out of gratitude.
