It’s no secret that the prime minister is trying to “straddle the line” politically – while her party, the Brothers of Italy, until recently acted as a classic far-right formation, it has been much more moderate since gaining power. Thus, Meloni wants to create one big conservative party in Italy, while at the European level she wants to cooperate with the European People’s Party (EPP), whose members include the German Christian Democrats (CDU), the KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 in the Czech Republic.
