How the nobility in Czechia lost their land or We are clearing the White Mountain
The land reform established greater social equality in the villages. The new owners even built monuments to the reform so that these revolutionary changes would not be forgotten. The slogan “We are reclaiming the White Mountain,” meaning we are taking back our land from the hands of foreign nobility, was often heard from politicians at the time. However, this then attractive populist slogan unfairly forgot the old Czech nobility and the support that the nobility gave to the national revival. The expropriated lands were paid to the original owners, but at a pre-war price that was about one-third of the post-war market price.
