Who in northern Slovakia is not paying for their employees? Debts in social contributions are counted in the millions.
The leader of the Social Insurance Agency’s blacklist in the Žilina Region is not much of a surprise. Self-declared “contribution holidays” are one of the specific features of a certain segment of the Slovak business environment. Companies resort to them, for example, during financial dry spells, when they choose who to send their money to. If they fail to pay their business partners, they may jeopardize their operations. But if they do not pay social security or health insurance contributions, they may calculate that nothing will happen to them anyway.
