Do you live a healthy lifestyle? Bonus. Unhealthy? Pay extra. How insurance companies see it
Instead of higher premiums for inadequate health care, the Association of Health Insurance Companies (SZP) proposes to give insurers the option of adjusting clients’ contracts by a surcharge or, otherwise, rewarding them with bonus care. The SZP has done so in response to information from the Health Daily that the Ministry of Finance is considering a higher health insurance rate for people who do not take care of their health. Under the proposal, people who take insufficient care of their health or risk their health for one year would have their premiums raised by one percentage point the following year. This is currently 13.5 per cent of the assessment base, the employee’s taxable income, one-third is taken by the employee and two-thirds is paid by the employer.
