A blunder of a big military case. Prosecution withheld testimony, judge says.
The December verdict of the Prague City Court dealt a severe blow to the reputation of the Prague High Prosecutor’s Office and the former police anti-mafia unit. According to the not-yet-final ruling, prosecutors and detectives utterly failed to investigate the major army case surrounding General Vladimír Halenka. The case revolves around the sale of unneeded military equipment into private hands. According to the detectives, the state suffered CZK 7 million in damages. Judge Blanka Bedřichová, however, acquitted General Halenka along with three other defendants and pointed to serious errors by investigators and the prosecutor.
