The government withdrew the resolution on Charter 77. It complied with Gruntorad’s request
The government complied with the request of dissident Jiří Gruntorád and on Saturday revoked its resolution, which it adopted last January in a remote vote, to uphold the traditions of the Charter 77 struggle for human rights and democracy. But that does not mean the cabinet has abandoned the legacy, the government office said in a press release. Gruntorád, a signatory of Charter 77 and founder of the Libri prohibiti library of samizdat and exile literature, has been on hunger strike since Friday 17 November over the failure to address the problem of low pensions for opponents of the communist regime and is demanding the resignation of Labour and Social Affairs Minister Marian Jurecka (KDU-ČSL).
