Gottwald’s Horror Show
Tradition dictates that a spooky picture should appear here on this blog on October 31, Halloween Day. This one comes from the chamber of horrors of communism, the crypt of the red horror, so to speak. And one can only hope that the ghosts that may dwell here never awaken. Clement Gottwald was one of the most ruthless enforcers of Stalin’s will among the heads of state that Moscow installed in its circle of power in the conquered countries after World War II. Murder, torture, monster trials, espionage, press censorship, forced labor (preferably in radioactively contaminated uranium mines), suppression of all personal and political freedoms, and the abolition of all parties except the Communist Party were the order of the day under him.
