StB, the Bartolomějská 314 headquarters, the famous “Four”, torture, communist terror
The database will introduce you to top secret buildings, houses, hotels or places connected with the activities of the State Security and its perverse totalitarian system. The main headquarters of the StB was a building in Prague’s Bartolomějská Street (slang for “tile shop”; today the building is used by the Police of the Czech Republic), and perhaps the most brutal interrogation room was the infamous so-called Hradčany House. The StB also used many buildings conspiratorially, for example, a part of the Brevnov monastery (a small or Sartorius Convent) was used under the name “Assembly Institute”. From the beginning, the StB was a communist department which, as early as 1945-1948, carried out illegal operations in favour of the Communist Party, such as surveillance and eavesdropping on prominent members of other parties or the creation of false evidence to blacken and liquidate opponents of the Communist Party.
