A breakthrough finding by Czech scientists. They discovered where the first people came to Europe
Upright man (homo erectus) was the first to leave Africa some two million years ago and head for the Middle East, Asia and Europe. For many years it was thought that the first humans came to Europe via Spain. But as it now turns out, it was otherwise. A group of scientists led by Roman Garba from the Institute of Nuclear Physics at the Czech Academy of Sciences has come up with a new finding. Thanks to new research methods, they have discovered where upright humans (Homo erectus) had appeared on the continent before, what the migration routes of the first humans looked like and that they colonised the continent. The great success of the Czech scientists in particular is demonstrated by the publication of their research in a recent issue of the respected scientific weekly Nature.
