Golden times of Czechoslovakia – Subcarpathian Ruthenia Full of Soldiers, the Undemocratic 5 and the Non-Czech Hispano-Suiza Engine for the BH-21

The Golden times of Czechoslovakia and Elections. Eliška Krásnohorská and Karel Čapek also hunted votes for “their” parties.

Czechoslovakia, however, was primarily an industrial country (in the Czech lands, only a quarter of the population worked in agriculture), and so the economic boom mainly depended on the revival of factory production. This was reflected across a wide range of industries. The backbone of the industry was engineering, with the recently merged ČKD factories expanding production of machinery and locomotives, while the Škoda Works in Plzeň was also growing, having just taken over the fire-damaged Laurin & Klement automobile company in 1925. Czechoslovakia was also at the forefront of aviation – the Prague-based Avia started full-scale production of the BH-21 fighter this year, which was later ordered by Belgium and for which a license was purchased. Cheap shoes from Baťa had already become internationally known, but the Zlín-based manufacturer had much bigger plans and thus invested in the future.
