Death sentence pronounced in two 2 days including execution, the execution was also watched by many children, or how young cannibals have fun

Extraordinary People’s Court Prague 1945-1948 (1952)

The first accused to stand trial before the Extraordinary People’s Court in Prague was the deputy mayor of Prague, Prof. Josef Pfitzner, who was sentenced to death after a two-day main trial on 5-6 September 1945. His public execution by hanging was watched by 30,000 spectators on the square in front of Pankrác Prison. Many children also watched. The theatricality of the execution and the presence of underage spectators, however, provoked opposition from some foreign and domestic institutions, so the public concept of executions was reconsidered and further executions were held inside the judicial complex and in the presence of an audience limited by passes (with the complete exclusion of minors).
