At the police station they called me dirt and parasites, says a Romani man. Excessive use of force is not unique
When a Romani person complains about the actions of the police, the truth is hard to uncover. In Slovakia, the police do not have to fear sanctions, says Amnesty International Director Rado Sloboda. He went out for a normal work dinner but ended up in handcuffs at the police station. He claims he was slammed against a table, beaten and kicked. Zoltán Sztojka, a Roma activist, points to an incident at the district police department in Trnávka, Bratislava, where he says he was beaten. He speaks of slaps, kicks and racist insults.
