Europe set to regulate artificial intelligence. ‘Big Brother won’t be in the EU,’ experts say
The European Union will be the first in the world to have comprehensive rules on the use of artificial intelligence. Diplomats Veronika Chvála Vinklárková from the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU and Veronika Kadlecová, who also worked at the Permanent Representation in the past, were at the negotiation of the AI Act. They agree that clear rules will give technology companies predictability and people a sense of security when using AI. Regulation can therefore ultimately benefit innovation.

MEPs want to strengthen the exchange of information between police forces in the EU
Members of the European Parliament have backed a proposal to allow police forces in different EU countries to exchange more information with each other in an easier way than before. Under the proposal, police could now share, for example, facial biometric data. European Commissioner Ylva Johansson said this would make the fight against organised crime or the search for missing persons more effective. However, critics believe that the new regulation does not sufficiently protect the data of people in police databases, including those who have not committed any crime.
