Poland’s commitment to repatriate men of conscription age to Ukraine may have economic consequences
A Deloitte report for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) states that Ukrainian refugees contributed 0.7-1.1% to Poland’s GDP in 2023 and estimates that this effect will rise to 0.9-1.35% in the long term. Thanks to the increase in the wage bill, higher private consumption and foreign capital inflows, Poland’s public revenues will increase by PLN 10.1-13.7 billion ($2.525-3.425 billion) in 2022 and by PLN 14.7-19.9 billion (3,675-4.975 billion) in 2023, which, according to the report, will significantly offset public spending on refugees of 15 billion zlotys ($3.75 billion) in 2022 and 5 billion zlotys ($1.25 billion) in 2023.
