Immediately investigate the death of a Roma man in Teplice, says Council of Europe
The Council of Europe on Wednesday called for an immediate, thorough and independent investigation into the death of a Roma man in Teplice following a police crackdown that it said raises a number of questions. The case has also received international media attention in recent days. Most often they cite the parallel with the case of the black man George Floyd, who died in the USA after a police officer knelt on his neck for long minutes.

Death of Roma in Teplice crackdown heads to European Court, relative sues Czech Republic
The case of the police crackdown in which a Romani man died in Teplice, North Bohemia, in June 2021 is headed to the European Court of Human Rights. Lawyers from the European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) and the Forum for Human Rights (FORUM) filed the complaint against the Czech Republic, which was rejected by the Czech Constitutional Court in April 2023.
