‘A driver who refuses to take a test almost certainly has alcohol in his blood’ Ministry to toughen penalties for refusing test
Since 2010, every roadside police check has included an alcohol or drug test. Over the past five years, officers have increasingly encountered drivers who simply refuse to take a breath test or test for other addictive substances. From 2018 to last year, the number of cases nearly doubled to more than 7,000. That’s according to the Department of Transportation’s offense and crime statistics.
