Juraj Šeliga, deputy chairman of the National Council, formerly an activist calling for compliance with the law, sat in the restaurant during the curfew

In the past he has held up a mirror to politicians, today he faces scandal. Who is Juraj Šeliga and what was his political path?

Juraj Šeliga is a symbol of decency for many, but the latest case may shatter his reputation. In the past he has criticised many politicians, but today he is the one who has to endure questions from journalists. For many, Juraj Šeliga is a symbol of decent Slovakia. Thanks to the organisation of the protests for a decent Slovakia, which drew tens of thousands of people to the squares after the murder of Ján Kuciak and Martina Kušnírová, he has become a familiar face. As a symbol of the fight against corruption and also against the ruling Smer party, he was able to get into parliament with ease. He is the co-founder and deputy chairman of the party, which was led in the elections by former President Andrej Kiska. Last year, he relinquished the chairmanship, and today the party For the People is headed by Veronika Remišová. But today she is facing a scandal.
