A prime example of waste: soldiers cut 120 million worth of parachutes for tarpaulins
The Ministry of Defence proceeded in an unconceptual manner when purchasing military equipment and concluded several suspicious deals. For example, 120 million worth of army parachutes sat in storage for several years, only to be destroyed. This is the result of an audit by the Supreme Audit Office. Another suspicious action of the Ministry of Defence, which was pointed out by the SAO, is the purchase of army parachutes. The ministry wanted to renew parachute equipment in 2006 by purchasing 300 new sets for CZK 40 million. However, the office found that 712 old parachutes worth CZK 120 million were in warehouses at the time.
